The epistle of Hebrews written to Jewish followers of Christ had encouraged believers during a time of heavy persecution.
The letter was written to demonstrate it was impossible for those who received the revelation of the Lordship of Jesus Christ to find salvation in any other, except through Christ alone.
Christ was God’s supreme authority and heir of all things.
Hebrews 1:2–4 (MEV): 1 God, who at various times and in diverse ways spoke long ago to the fathers through the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the world. 3 He is the brightness of His glory, the express image of Himself, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had by Himself purged our sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. 4 He was made so much better than the angels as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.
God revealed himself through his son, Jesus Christ, the supremacy of God, the father. The appointed heir of all things. The express image of his person.
You see, we place our faith in the person of Jesus Christ, and not in things like Covenant Rights. Because Jesus Christ is the Covenant. Those Covenant Rights come from His person, His will, and His character. If you remember back to the time when Jesus walked on the water and he asked Peter to come to him. Peter was walking on the very words of Christ, and when he started to look at the wind and the waves, instead of looking at Christ, that’s when he started to sink, but then Jesus reached out his hand and saved him from sinking. We must learn to rely strictly on the person of God. Father, son, and Holy Spirit.
