The image of God and the responsibility it carries

Genesis 1:27 (MEV): 27 *So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

An image is a visual representation of something, and in our case, we look like God because he created us in his image.

Mankind could never be God, however, we are his representatives. God intended that we should partner with him in his work. Man was assigned a particular role over creation. He was to cultivate and take care of it. It’s not at all my intent to sound political, but I believe God is concerned about the environment. God intended for us to be care takers of the Earth. I believe this is biblical for several reasons.

Genesis 1:26

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

God speaks to Israel here, but we could take this example and learn from it, because it’s the right thing to do.

Numbers 35:33-34

33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.  34 Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.
