What is Faith in God?
- Belief in his Existence: Conviction that God exists. Hebrews 11:1–3 (MEV): 11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the men of old obtained a good report. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was framed by the word of God, so that things that are seen were not made out of things which are visible.
- Trust: Reliance on God’s wisdom, goodness, and plans. Isaiah 55:8–9 (MEV): 8 For My thoughts are not your thoughts nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. 9 *For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
- Commitment: Devotion to following God’s teachings and commandments. 2 John 9 (MEV): 9 Whoever transgresses and does not remain in the teaching of Christ does not have God. Whoever remains in the teaching of Christ has both the Father and the Son.
- Hope: Expectation of God’s promises being fulfilled in the future. Titus 2:13–14 (MEV): 13 as we await the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for Himself a special people, zealous of good works.
