Light dispels darkness, making what was hidden or unclear visible. In both physical and metaphorical senses, light overcomes darkness. Biblically, light often symbolizes truth, goodness, and the presence of God, while darkness represents sin, ignorance, or evil. As light enters a space of darkness, it brings clarity, guidance, and hope, pushing away confusion and fear.
- John 8:12
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” - Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” - John 1:4-5
“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” - Ephesians 5:8-9
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth).” - Psalm 119:105
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Jesus is the source of light, bringing truth and life, and that His followers are also called to shine His light into the world.
