Replacement theology, also known as supersessionism, is the idea that the Church has taken Israel’s place in God’s plan. It basically says that the promises God made to Israel in the Old Testament now belong to the Church, and that the Jewish people no longer have a special role in His covenant. However, many Christians disagree, believing that God still has a unique plan for both Israel and the Church.
-Elving Ellis
“The position of replacement theology is not only weak grammatically but does not take into consideration the other seventy-two uses of “Israel” in the New Testament. Paul and the other writers use “Israel” to mean ethnic Israel or believing Jews within the nation of Israel. The church is simply not called Israel or spiritual Israel.”
