For God knows that on the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:5, MEV)
The answer touches something deep in us. We were made in God’s image—crafted to reflect His heart, His character, His love. That’s our starting point. But God didn’t stop there. He invites us into something even greater: to become more like Him through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Since the beginning, the enemy has tried to convince man that he could become like God but not in the way God created us to be.
No, we don’t become God Himself. We’ll never be His equal. But through Christ, we’re welcomed to share in who He is—His holiness, His love, His eternal life. The Bible calls this being partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). It’s not about becoming divine in essence, but about becoming more like our divine Father in heart and character.
From the moment we put our faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit begins working in us—changing us, shaping us, making us more like Him. It’s a lifelong journey of transformation that begins at salvation and continues every day. This is sanctification: becoming more loving, more holy, more like the God we were made to reflect.
We’re not just created in His image—we’re called to live in His likeness.
