Gifts of the Spirit are active in the church today. All spiritual gifts are subservient to the the divinely inspired canon of scripture. Nothing added, nor taken away. The foundational doctrine of the church was established through Jesus Christ and His Apostles. Nothing added, nor taken away.
What is the canon and why does it matter if spiritual gifts are subservient to the canon?
The cannon is the divinely inspired scripture given by God.
Spiritual gifts used outside of their intended purpose are unbiblical and should be avoided at all cost.
We must embrace spiritual gifts and avoid unbiblical extremes.
All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16, MEV)
20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of the Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy at any time was produced by the will of man, but holy men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. (2 Peter 1:20–21, MEV)
having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, (Ephesians 2:20, MEV)
Ephesians 2:20 refutes the idea that books were unnecessarily removed from the Bible.
42 They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in the prayers. 43 Fear came to every soul. And many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 All who believed were together and had all things in common. (Acts 2:42–44, MEV)
The early church remained in the apostles teaching, and they had all things in common.
