The Pursuit of Wealth

Two facts:

1. God desires to provide for us. Philippians 4:19

2. God wants to give us the desires of our heart when we have pure motives. Psalm 37:4

The pursuit of wealth can be deceptive because it promises security and happiness but often delivers anxiety and emptiness instead. Money can easily become a false measure of success, distracting the heart from what truly matters—faith, purpose, and relationships. As Jesus warned, riches can quietly take God’s place if we are not careful, leaving us rich in possessions but poor in what lasts forever.

4 Do not labor to be rich;

cease from your own wisdom.

5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not?

For riches certainly make themselves wings;

they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.  (Proverbs 23:4–5, MEV)

This proverb does not condemn wealth; it warns against the pursuit of wealth. Ecclesiastes also warns about pursuit of wealth and its inability to satisfy.

10 He who loves money will not be satisfied with money; nor he who loves abundance with increase.

This also is vanity.

11 When there is an increase of good things,

then there is an increase of those who devour them.

And what profit have the owners  (Ecclesiastes 5:10–11, MEV)
