Leaders Holding Back Tears

Some leaders aren’t weak.

They’re just carrying too much at once.

They carry vision.

They carry responsibility.

They carry the burdens of others.

They carry criticism in silence.

They carry expectations no one sees.

And sometimes… they carry tears they won’t let fall.

Even the greatest leaders in Scripture felt that weight.

Moses cried out under the burden of leading Israel.

David wept openly before the Lord.

Even Jesus Christ wept at Lazarus’ tomb.

Tears are not a sign of weakness.

They are evidence of care.

A leader who never feels the weight probably isn’t truly carrying anyone.

But here’s the hope:

The same God who calls leaders… sustains leaders.

You don’t have to hold it all together.

You just have to stay surrendered.

Delegation Is the Answer

Leaders break down when they try to carry what God never asked them to carry alone.

Delegation is not weakness.

It is wisdom.

When the burden became too heavy for Moses, his father-in-law Jethro told him plainly:

“What you are doing is not good.”

Moses was wearing himself out — and wearing the people out with him.

The solution?

Delegate.

Appoint capable people.

Share responsibility.

Create structure.

Trust others to carry part of the load.

Delegation:

Protects the leader from burnout Develops new leaders Strengthens the mission Honors God’s design for the Body

Even in the early church, when ministry demands overwhelmed the apostles, they appointed others to serve so they could stay focused on prayer and the Word (Acts 6).

Carrying everything yourself is not spiritual.

It’s unsustainable.

Healthy leadership says:

“This assignment is bigger than me — and that’s okay.”
