Lord, your word is truth

For I have not spoken on My own authority, but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.  (John 12:49, MEV)

People often “step out of Scripture” with their words when what they say no longer lines up with what God has already revealed. In simple terms: their speech starts reflecting human reasoning, emotion, or culture more than truth.

Here are some clear ways this happens:

Some many believers add to what God actually said. People take a biblical truth and stretch it beyond its meaning and often turning God’s promises into guarantees He never made (like promising wealth in every situation). This shifts from trust in God to control or assumption, placing our personal will in the drivers seat.

We justify taking Scripture out of context and quoting verses without understanding the full message.

A single verse used out of context could sound right but lead people off track. Even Satan quoted Scripture when tempting Jesus.

We must also beware of speaking from feelings over truth and letting emotions override what God says. For example: “I feel like God wouldn’t judge…” instead of trusting what Scripture clearly teaches. Feelings are real—but not always reliable guides.
