The Five Solas:
The five solas are a set of Latin phrases that encapsulate the biblical gospel. Sola, is Latin for “alone” or “only”. The five solas are still relevant today and are regarded as fundamental tenets concerning the doctrine of salvation:
- Sola Scriptura: Scripture alone: 1 Peter 1:23 (MEV): 23 *for you have been born again, not from perishable seed, but imperishable, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.
- Solus Christus: Christ alone: Acts 4:12 (MEV): 12 *There is no salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
- Sola Fide: Faith alone: Romans 3:28 (MEV): 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the works of the law.
- Sola Gratia: Grace alone: Ephesians 2:8–9 (MEV): 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, 9 not of works, so that no one should boast.
- Soli Deo Gloria: To the glory of God alone: John 5:44 (MEV): 44 *How can you believe, who receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. For it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith. As it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:16–17, MEV)
What should we preach?
Let us look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb 12:2
23 *But we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Greeks. 24 *But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, we preach Christ as the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1 Cor 1:23
16 While Paul waited for them in Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. 17 Therefore he disputed in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there. 18 *Then some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, “What will this babbler say?” Others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he preached Jesus and the resurrection to them. Ac 17:16–18
7 *Of this I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. 8 *To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the incomprehensible riches of Christ, Eph 3:7–9
15 *He said to them, “Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15
47 *and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24:47
8 *But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
13 *He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of His dear Son, 14 *in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Col 1:13–14
18 *to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ Ac 26:18
5 *Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 *through whom we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and so we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Ro 5:1–2
