The gospel proclaims a wonderful truth: through Jesus Christ, believers have been redeemed from the curse of the law. Scripture declares, “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us” (Galatians 3:13). The law revealed God’s holy standard, but it also exposed humanity’s inability to achieve righteousness through personal effort. Because all have sinned, the law stood as a witness against us, condemning our failures and showing our need for a Savior. Jesus took that condemnation upon Himself at the cross, bearing the judgment that belonged to us.
Being redeemed from the curse of the law means that our standing before God is no longer based on our performance but on Christ’s finished work. We are not accepted because we have perfectly obeyed every command; we are accepted because Jesus perfectly obeyed the Father on our behalf. The believer is no longer under the threat of condemnation but has been brought into a relationship of grace. This freedom does not lead to careless living; rather, it produces gratitude, worship, and a desire to walk in the Spirit.
The cross stands as the eternal reminder that Christ has done what we could never do for ourselves. Every accusation, every failure, and every debt of sin was placed upon Him. Now those who trust in Christ can live with confidence, knowing they have been justified, forgiven, and made righteous before God. Our hope is not in our ability to keep the law but in the One who fulfilled it perfectly and gave Himself for us. In Christ, we are redeemed, blessed, and free to serve God in the power of His grace.
