No Longer a Slave — Romans 6:11–12

There was a time when sin controlled our lives. We followed its desires, surrendered to its influence, and often felt powerless to break free. But when Jesus Christ enters our lives, everything changes.

Romans 6:6 tells us that our old self was crucified with Christ so that we would no longer be slaves to sin.

This is more than a religious statement. It is the reality of what Christ accomplished for us.

Being free from sin does not mean that temptation will never come. It does not mean that we will never struggle or make a wrong choice. It means that sin no longer has to rule over us.

Romans 6:14 says, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.”

Sin may tempt you, but you do not have to surrender to it. Your past may remind you of who you were, but Christ reminds you of who you are in Him.

You are not the person you used to be.

Grace has given you a new beginning. Through Christ, you have been given the freedom to say no to what once controlled you and yes to the life God has called you to live.

Romans 6:12 says, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies, that you should obey it in its lusts.”

Notice that Scripture says, “Do not let sin reign.” This means we are not powerless. Because of what Christ has done, we can refuse to give sin the authority to control our lives.

Romans 6:13 tells us to yield ourselves to God.

Every day gives us another opportunity to surrender ourselves to the One who has set us free.

You do not have to live under the control of your old habits. You do not have to remain trapped by yesterday. Your failures do not have the final word.

Jesus has the final word.

The cross reminds us that Christ dealt with sin. His resurrection reminds us that we can walk in newness of life.

So stand in the freedom Christ has given you.

You are no longer a slave to sin.

You belong to Jesus.

Walk in that freedom.
